The ruins of the former Alexander Tower stand on the highest elevation in the lower Bliestal, the Kahlenberg, which is around 400 metres high. The tower, originally over 26 metres high, was completed in 1893. From the tower, you had a fantastic view as far as the Donnersberg in the north-east, the Palatinate Forest in the east and the ridges of the Vosges mountains in the south-east. Today, only the base of the tower remains, as it was blown up by German pioneers at midnight on 9 September 1939, during the first days of the war.
The tower was recently renovated and a viewing platform was built, which will be accessible from March 2022.
The tower ruins are a popular excursion destination for hikers and cyclists, and the viewing platform offers a beautiful panoramic view of the surrounding area. Well signposted hiking and cycling trails lead to the tower ruins, which are located near the Kahlenberger Hof farm between Breitfurt and Böckweiler. Direct access by car is not possible.
