Logo Bliesgau Cycle Route
The circular route is consistently marked as Bliesgau cycle path and starts from the station in Blieskastel-Lautzkirchen towards the baroque town of Blieskastel on the Saarland cycle path. The initially flat route is leisurely to ride because the cycle path was still an old railway line until 1991, which led through the idyllic valley landscape of the Blies into the Bliesgau. In 2000, it was converted into a cycle-hiking path and opened on May 1st. Along the route to the southernmost point, cyclists find some refreshment stops in Blieskastel, Herbitzheim, and Gersheim. From Gersheim, the route continues directly to the European Culture Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim, a cross-border archaeology park. Then there is a single notable climb from Reinheim of over 150 meters in elevation up the ridge between the Blies valley and the Mandelbachtal. Once at the top, the route follows a pleasantly cool forest for about 8 km, past the Katharinenhof golf course and Celtic burial mounds up to the Hölschberg just before Biesingen. After a dreamy descent near Biesingen, orchard landscapes follow down into the "Lange Tal", along the forest edge and horse paddocks. The village of Blieskastel-Alschbach in the valley follows after about 3 km. Here a detour to Gut Lindenfels with its organic farm shop and the forest café on the Alschbach hill is worthwhile. Towards the end of the route, cyclists need to be careful as a roadside cycle path leads from Alschbach to Lautzkirchen via the local road to the station in Lautzkirchen.
