A very varied, mostly flat and attractively guided route that is easy to get to and from by train. Characteristic are the valley routes with several ponds and restaurants, the pedestrian zone in St. Ingbert and the scenic route along green paths into the city centre of Saarbrücken.

Following the Velo visavis signposts to Niederwürzbach, we cycle through Lautzkirchen on local roads, but from the railway crossing at the end of the village we are directed onto the new cycle path through the Würzbach valley. We pass through Breitermühle and meet the 7-Weiher-Tour with the blue-green frog logo in Niederwürzbach. You can take a shortcut here by cycling directly to Sengscheid via Oberwürzbach. But then you will also miss some of the ponds with the most beautiful sections of the route as well as St. Ingbert with its attractive pedestrian zone. We therefore follow the signs to Geistkircher Hof.
The Würzbacher Weiher is the largest body of water on the tour. Immediately after the leisure centre with beer garden, the Hotel-Restaurant Annahof with its historic walls and beautiful courtyard invites you to linger. The route continues attractively along the pond before a marvellously beautiful valley landscape opens up before us.
On newly developed paths, we walk along valley meadows and forest edges through the Geißbach and Frohnsbach valleys. If you pay attention, you will even find a crystal-clear spring bubbling up from the sandy ground between a few boulders shortly after the Würzbacher Weiher pond on the left-hand side of the path. There are several wonderful places to stop for a picnic.
At Geistkircher Hof, take care when crossing the busy country road. A narrow path leads into the forest for a short distance. The cool forest air over the next 3 kilometres is good for you and the next pond is already in front of you as you cycle pleasantly downhill.
The Glashütter Weiher, with its not entirely clear but clean water, is a small reservoir idyllically embedded in the landscape. A sunbathing lawn on the opposite bank is also ideal for a picnic. Alternatively, you can take a break at the Glashütterhof, an inn with a beer garden, or at the kiosk right by the pond.
A short time later, we arrive at Wombacher Weiher, a fishing lake with a water fountain, benches and a catered fishing hut. On warm days, there is a water treading area to cool off your feet. We reach St. Ingbert. Our route leads very attractively along tarmac cycle paths past the "das blau" leisure pool through the town park and then through the centre of the pedestrian zone, which is open to cyclists. We cycle along the Alte Schmelz, a former ironworks that is now a listed building, to Rentrisch. We continue to follow the Velo visavis logo to Sengscheid. There are around 60 metres of ascent to overcome before we can reward ourselves with cool drinks in a beautifully situated beer garden in Sengscheid.
The next 6 kilometres are a pleasant downhill ride through the entire Grumbach valley. Cycling could hardly be more relaxing: We glide through the beautiful valley landscape to Schafbrücke as if by magic. We are led along side roads to the access road to the Halberg, the headquarters of Saarländischer Rundfunk. But it's only a few metres uphill before our route turns left towards Brebach. Around the Halberg, through Brebach and across the St. Arnualer Wiesen meadows, we reach the Saar and cross the Daarl bridge at the combined heat and power station to reach the Stadenanlagen.
The Stadenanlagen are certainly the most popular green spaces in Saarbrücken. In the centre of the park, two attractive beer gardens invite you to linger in good weather. We pass the Saarland State Theatre directly alongside the Saar and reach the junction to St. Johanner Markt under the Old Bridge. If you want, you can stop for a last bite to eat in one of the many pubs, bistros and restaurants here before continuing along the Berliner Promenade to the Kongresshalle and then to Saarbrücken main station.
Sicherheitshinweise
The route mostly leads along tarmac and well-maintained farm tracks away from traffic or along quiet local roads. The total elevation gain of just 170 metres is spread over several smaller climbs. There are numerous opportunities to take a break, making the tour suitable for families with children.
