Hiking trail marking Bliessteig
The fourth stage of the Bliessteig leads over about 10 km across several ascents and descents through predominantly forested areas. There is much to discover here: the baroque town of Blieskastel with its numerous sights or the approximately 5,000-year-old Gollenstein on a hill. But the Kirkeler castle at the end of the stage is also not to be missed!
Experience the different landscapes in the biosphere on this stage. While the first stages were still characterized by wide views, gentle hills, and open meadows, at the end of the fourth stage you hike through the red sandstone area, past the first rocky sections.
The Bliessteig was awarded by the renowned hiking magazine in 2025 as Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in the category of multi-day routes.
Autorentipp
In the baroque town of Blieskastel, numerous cafés and restaurants invite you to take a break. Even after the route, you can refresh yourself with various restaurateurs in Kirkel.
Wegbeschreibung
The fourth stage of the Bliessteig begins at Paradeplatz in Blieskastel's old town. The route passes remarkable sights such as the Snake Fountain or the old market. At the tourist info, there is also helpful map material or route tips. The route leads up over 203 steps to the monastery of Blieskastel. The ascent is worth it; here you have a magnificent view over the town and the landscape of the Bliesgau. Through the beautifully landscaped monastery garden and past the Jewish cemetery, the path gently climbs. Past the Gollenstein hut, the Bliessteig leads up narrow paths up the mountain to the Gollenstein. Through the town center of Lautzkirchen, the route passes the station and then climbs again to the "Totenköpfchen." The Bliessteig passes through a residential area towards Pferchtal. Here it goes through the forest on paths and trails leading into the Kirkel forest. The route goes over rocky paths to the forest edge at the Kirkeler castle, where this stage ends. The castle tavern or the Friends of Nature house invite you to rest here.
