Characteristic for this circular route are the four enchanted “gardens with history” which await discovery.
The route starts at the station in St. Ingbert and immediately goes uphill towards St. Ingbert-Sengscheid. Through the forest, the route follows the “Saar-Nahe high route” to Blieskastel-Seelbach and further to Blieskastel-Assweiler, to the first “garden with history” – the Bagatelle Assweiler. The route leads over the heights of the Biosphere Bliesgau and continues via Erfweiler-Ehlingen in the beautiful Mandelbachtal to Wittersheim. There, cyclists can expect the “Tuscany of Saarland,” as the area exhibits a truly Mediterranean climate in the summer months. In the middle of nature is the cultural landscape centre Haus Lochfeld with one of the “gardens with history.” The garden is freely accessible, and nature enthusiasts can experience an interesting app-based audio tour there. The route then heads towards the French border. Upon reaching it, the third “garden with history” appears – the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim. Excavations have revealed a Gallo-Roman small settlement as well as a Roman villa. Although not yet confirmed by finds, ornamental and utility gardens likely once belonged to it. The last section of the route follows the well-known “Glan-Blies cycle path” to Blieskastel-Mimbach. There lies the last enchanted “garden with history” – the Biosphere Garden Mimbach. Somewhat hidden at the Protestant village church, the small garden invites visitors to a short stay. Via Blieskastel-Lautzkirchen and Niederwürzbach as well as the idyllic Würzbach valley, the route finally ends again at the St. Ingbert station.

Places to stop for refreshments can be found in the baroque town of Blieskastel, as well as at the Sonnenhof beer garden in Blieskastel directly on the route, and in Herbitzheim at Hotel Bliesbrück and its beer garden, as well as at the café seasonally on weekends and public holidays. In Gersheim, cyclists can find tasty food and drinks at the Historic Station. Numerous cafés, restaurants, and bistros also invite you to linger at the Würzbacher pond and in the pedestrian zone of St. Ingbert.
Wegbeschreibung
Please note that on this route proposal you will follow various signposts and should therefore read the route description carefully.
Route course:
Start at St. Ingbert station – continue via Annastraße and Albert-Weisgerber-Allee over the motorway bridge to Sengscheid - at the village entrance, turn left into the forest path parallel to L108 - follow the road for approx. 700 m - then turn left onto the field path and follow the "Saar-Nahe high route" - follow the path to Seelbach - turn right towards Aßweiler and at the entrance to Aßweiler, turn left - behind the nursery turn right, then at the end right again, to B 423, cross it and turn opposite into "Ehlinger Weg" - in Erfweiler-Ehlingen at the main road turn right - then at the sharp right bend turn left towards Wittersheim - there cross B 423 and turn slightly right to Haus Lochfeld – from there head towards Bebelsheim to Jungholzhütte and further to Habkirchen to the customs museum – a short stretch over the French border towards the European Cultural Park – take the “Glan-Blies cycle path” towards Blieskastel – passing Herbitzheim and Mimbach – from Blieskastel through Lautzkirchen to Niederwürzbach, and finally through the Würzbach valley past St. Ingbert-Hassel to St. Ingbert station
