Karlsberg pond
The Karlsberg pond is an idyllic visitor attraction in the Karlsberg Castle Forest Park below the ruins of the orangery.
The shape of the Karlsberg pond has undergone several changes over the past 200 years: in the late 18th century, with its trapezoidal basin and several terraces leading down to it, it was a piece of charmingly designed nature. On the sunny left side of the pond, the duke had vines planted on the slopes. Only the chestnut trees that accompanied the vineyards can still be seen. In the first half of the 20th century, it was used as a swimming pool for the local population, with the addition of a preliminary clarification basin and steps. In 2002, the banks and the centre island were finally renovated. Today, the pond is part of the Schlossbergtour premium hiking trail and invites you to linger.
