A visit to Gunter Altenkirch's "Museum for Everyday Village Culture" in Rubenheim is well worthwhile. The museum has been dedicated to the folklore of the Saarland and neighbouring regions for decades. It is housed in a south-west German farmhouse in the centre of the village. On display are countless exhibits that deal with everyday life, especially in the lower social classes, such as the small farming families of the 19th and 20th centuries, day labourers, craftsmen and workers.
The same estate is home to the "Museum of Saarland Superstition". The museum has one of the most important collections on this subject, including building sacrifices, house spirits and their defence, women's hair, magical healing and much more.
Guided tours are always offered during regular opening hours. The same applies to events outside regular opening hours.
