The new Räuberweg trail in Kirkel-Neuhäusel is designed to offer families with children, in particular, an exciting “interactive fairy tale” to explore on foot.
Starting in the forest, the trail reaches the water rocks, which constantly drip water in both summer and winter. Geologists refer to this as a stratum spring. The water rocks are particularly captivating on frosty days when the seeping water freezes into slender, metre-long icicles. From up here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the village and Kirkel Castle.
The path continues to the Frauenbrunnen, a widely known, mystical-looking spring that presumably served as a place of worship for the Celts – another reason why the Romans and knights once found this place so appealing.
The path also passes the marble run, where hikers of all ages can roll the marbles they’ve brought with them down the hill.

Well, did you notice anything when you were out and about in Kirkeler Forest? Perhaps some of you have already spotted the funny creatures that have been roaming around the Felsenpfad since 2022. Because this is now the Robber’s Den, home to the robber himself, a castle guard, the king, and lots of wooden forest animals.

The short circular walk was redesigned in 2022 and enhanced with wood carvings, but for much of its length it follows the routes of the ‘Kirkeler Tafeltour’ premium hiking trail and the Kirkeler Felsenpfad, offering highlights from these routes.
Consequently, there is something for young and old alike: the little ones will be particularly interested in the treasure hunt for the swords, rings, ravens, snails and treasure chests by woodcarver Maurice Eickhoff, hidden in the forest and to be found all along the route.
Older visitors, on the other hand, are likely to be interested in the beautiful panoramic views from the “Schöne Aussicht”, the quarry of Kirkeler Burg, the old refuge “Hollerburg”, the geological nature trail, and the Celtic spring sanctuary “Frauenbrunnen”. It is considered certain that the spring was already regarded as a sanctuary in Celtic times. The section of the trail along the upper rock path is particularly scenic.
