Donkey trekking high up "in God's hand"

High up in the small village of Wolfersheim, in what is considered "God's hand," live four donkeys in the stable of Sonnenbogen Farm. 91-year-old Karoline Neumüller is happy to explain to all visitors why the village is "in God's hand." The answer is quite simple: the small plateau above the Blies River is shaped like a hand and bathed in sunshine. The home of the four donkeys—Lotti, Lizzy, Anton, and Danka—is located right in the heart of the village. Their trusted handler is Hannes Ballhorn from Sonnenbogen Farm. Together with him and the donkeys, city dwellers and animal lovers of all ages can explore the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve around Wolfersheim. The donkeys set the pace; you simply have to embrace their calm nature—it's pure relaxation in a stunning, world-class landscape. Young Bliesgau explorers can even ride on the donkeys' backs and feel like adventurers, just like Leatherstocking. Hannes Ballhorn also tells wonderful stories about nature in the Bliesgau region, its villages, and its people during his tours in the different seasons. A particularly special experience is the winter hike followed by a festive gathering in the barn at Hof Sonnenbogen. With mulled wine or children's punch and Christmas carols accompanied by guitar, a special atmosphere fills the air, and it warms your heart.
