Discover the Bliesgau

Hiking and biking are the best ways to truly “experience” this charming landscape and enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
What is there to discover in the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve?
The Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve is mysterious and beautiful. Far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, visitors can discover the natural beauty, cultural diversity, and warm hospitality of the people in this unique region.
Whether on horseback, by bike, on foot, or by bus—there’s always something to discover along the way. Beautiful cycling and hiking trails that wind past old farmhouses, through lush, flower-filled meadows, deep green forests, and the crisp, fresh air invite you to slow down. Even Asterix and Obelix loved it here, as evidenced by the archaeological highlights: the Roman Museum in Schwarzenacker and the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim, an archaeological park right on the border. Viewing the region from below is also an experience in itself. The Saarland Mining Museum in Bexbach and the Rischbach Tunnel in St. Ingbert offer a firsthand look at the hard work of miners. Another underground highlight is the Homburg Schlossberg Caves, Europe’s largest red sandstone caves. Culturally, the region also has plenty to offer, as evidenced by the “Pfanne” cabaret week of the same name in St. Ingbert. A treat for classical music fans are the Homburg Master Concerts featuring internationally renowned artists. The people of Saarland are known for their love of celebration and their enjoyment of life. Proof of this can be found in the numerous festivals and the fine cuisine—ranging from hearty Saarland fare to French-style dishes—with something to suit every palate in the Bliesgau Biosphere. We look forward to seeing you!
