Count Philipp von der Leyen (1766-1829) created his retreat "for the highest enjoyment" here in the extensive landscape on the Seelbacher height. On the large plain between Seelbach, Biesingen, and Aßweiler, he designed the castle complex "Bagatelle," consisting of several buildings. The ensemble included the Bagatelle little castle, the Schönbornlust country house—both with luxurious interiors—comedy house, servants' houses, and a menagerie.
Today, no buildings remain, and the area of the walking path mainly consists of extensive meadows with great views.

The lost landscape park in the sense of the so-called "English Gardens" is revived through an easy and entertaining hike guided by Countess Marianne von der Leyen.
Discover the almost forgotten grounds of Count Philipp von der Leyen, which he had built "for the highest enjoyment" around 1788 between Aßweiler and Seelbach, and which was destroyed shortly thereafter during the French Revolution. The countess will lead you on the scenic high plateau to the historically documented stations: Swiss dairy, Swiss and Bagatelle fountains, Bagatelle little castle, Schönborner Hof, and comedy house. Wegbeschreibung
The start is at the bus station in Aßweiler. From there, the path follows the main street ("Seelbacher Straße"), along which the path goes a few meters to the right, then turns right at the parking lot. At the parking lot, an information board points to the Bagatelle little castle and park, which stood here over 200 years ago.
From there, it continues across the fields to the Seelbach cemetery. At the cemetery, the walking path turns right onto a lightly gravelled path. After a few hundred meters, it turns right again, continuing across open fields until the Saarpfalzstraße is reached.
There, turn right and continue straight ahead back to the starting point, the bus station in Aßweiler. If you need a refreshment from within, you can stop at "Schuwer" in the nice beer garden.
