An appealing day hike for young and old! You will enjoy the kilometers-long meadows and forest edges and beautiful views over scattered orchards onto a gently rolling landscape. Especially in spring during the tree blossom and in autumn during the foliage color change, the hiking tour is a real feast for the eyes. The beautiful round through woods and meadows is ideal for those seeking peace and relaxation. You walk past abandoned quarries, past the Schornwald shelter, which invites you to rest with benches, and over an old Roman road.

Wegbeschreibung
The route starts in Herbitzheim at Hotel Bliesbrück and leads from the Blies valley up onto the ridge at the edge of the Schornwald forest. From here, the path stays high on the ridge and often winds for kilometers along the forest edges with great views of the Bliesgau villages Wolfersheim, Blickweiler, Ballweiler, Erfweiler-Ehlingen, Rubenheim and Herbitzheim. Occasionally, beautiful forest sections are also crossed.
The circular hike is charming in every season. It becomes especially colorful in spring when the numerous fruit trees around the villages are in bloom. But also in early summer, when the meadow flowers unfold their splendor and one can often admire wild orchids by the wayside, or the flowering areas created by our farmers with buzzing bees and bumblebees lie along the path. In autumn, when the trees change color, a "golden carpet" lies over the lovely landscape.
A special highlight on the route is the former limestone quarry above Wolfersheim, through which the narrow path winds along trees with thick lianas. Immediately afterwards, hikers can cool their arms, feet and face in the Kneipp basin above Ballweiler before going slightly uphill through tall beech forest over the hill from the Blies valley heights to the Mandelbachtal heights above Erfweiler-Ehlingen. For the very hungry, a small detour to the Pensioners’ Association hut above the village is worthwhile here. The path now passes the Schornwald shelter through the forest up to the Krehberg hut. From here, it goes over a meadow path past the forest edge with beautiful views into the Mandelbachtal. Then it continues past the forest edge to the old Roman road on the ridge. Across fields, it goes along the heights with beautiful sightlines into the Rohrenbach valley and the Blies valley back to the starting point in Herbitzheim. At the village entrance, the futuristically designed concrete church immediately catches the eye. You should definitely take a look inside, where you can directly see the idea pursued here: to incorporate the natural spiral of the ammonite into the construction of the church. Ammonites are cephalopods from prehistoric times and can be found in the Bliesgau as fossils in the muschelkalk. At the end of the hike, Hotel Bliesbrück invites you to rest.
