The Grubenweg Frankenholz starts at the St. Josef Church in the village center of Frankenholz. For over 70 years, the Frankenholz mine was a significant economic factor at Höcherberg, and the infrastructural development of Frankenholz and the other Bexbach districts would certainly have been different without the mine, which at its peak provided livelihood and work for nearly 3,000 people. The arc of the mine’s interesting history stretches from the first prospecting attempts in the Klemmlochtal, through the first coal extraction in 1881 at Shaft I, to the mine’s loss of independence in 1954 and its eventual closure in 1959. Ruins, relics, and various stations along this hiking route testify to this history to this day.

The starting point of the route is at the St. Joseph Church in Bexbach-Frankenholz. From there, the signposted path leads straight into "Schulstraße" and then turns left onto "Marktwaldstraße." Upon reaching the country road L 116, the route turns right and follows the L 116, also known as "Höcherbergstraße." At the second junction, the path turns left into the street "Am Dorfbrunnen" and then follows a field path into the forest. The woodland area is still called "Toter Krieger," where the former route of the aerial cableway between Frankenholz and Mittelbexbach station used to run. The path continues through the forest, always along the so-called "Bexbach." After some time, the route makes a sharper right turn and then, after a longer forest stretch, sharply left to the remains of the former "Schachtanlage I and II." Afterwards, it leads back to the center of Frankenholz via the "Höcherbergstraße" to the village square. This is crossed, and then the route turns right onto the street "Am Hirtenberg," arriving back at the starting point after a few hundred meters.
