The spacious Saalbau Cultural Centre complex offers, among other things,
a suitable foyer, a gallery for art exhibitions and an
attractive restaurant on the ground floor. The building has
level access, a disabled toilet and all events are
accessible via a glass lift.
In addition, an FM system is available for plays and concerts.
This is specifically designed for people with hearing aids and
cochlear implants.
History of the building:
1900: Weber Inn run by Adolf Euler, with two halls on two floors
1914: The Karlsberg Brewery acquires the restaurant property
1930: Construction of the hall by the Karlsberg Brewery
1931: Grand opening
1945: Damage caused by bombing raids
1947: Repair work
1947: Corner room on the ground floor becomes a cultural hall for the library, readings and lectures for
eight years 1960: The city acquires the hall from the Karlsberg Brewery
1967: Renovation work and new seating
1990: City council awards planning contract for a new cultural centre on the
forum grounds with an estimated cost of DM 40 million. The project
fails for financial reasons.
1979: Initial plans for a new cultural centre south of the town hall
1981: General overhaul of the hall with soundproof windows and attractive redesign of the ballroom
2000: Extension and redesign
2001: Opening concert on 9 December with the Munich Bach Collegium conducted by Shlomo Mintz
