Hut hiking route

Sign the hiking guestbook at the Horstenbrunnen and leave a greeting and your special experiences on the path. This is also a place of silence where you can listen to the surrounding nature. The small village of Oberwürzbach still has two butcher shops. Directly opposite the entrance to the parking lot is the Petermann butcher shop with delicious products from the region.

The starting point of this route is the parking lot at the Oberwürzbachhalle. From there, the path leads toward the valley floor, past the playground and over a small bridge to Friedhofstraße. From there, it continues uphill past the cemetery.

The path follows the road to the right across the cemetery parking lot. Several information boards about the local animal species line the path. After about 200 m, a trail begins on the right. This leads to a junction, where the path turns right down into the Laichweihertal. Keep left at the washhouse! Near the end of the valley are two fishing ponds, where there is also a small hut with a seating area. From here, the path winds up to the Eichertsfelsen, a cave-like natural monument.

The route now makes a curve to the right and crosses a wider path straight ahead. Then it goes down over a ridge to the Schopphübelhütte with a beer garden. It continues on the asphalt path to the left into the Wiesental near Hassel.

Here in the Wiesental, there is the option to shorten the path by not turning right toward Kahlenberg. If you walk straight through the Wiesental, after about 1.5 km you will meet the main path again and have saved about 4 km.

The main path leads to the right over St. Ingberter Straße in Hassel and then steeply uphill along a woodland path to the 372 m high Kahlenberg. Over small winding trails through old quarries, the path leads to the Kahlenberghütte with a view over northern Saarland. From here, the path goes over the ridge and then steeply uphill on a narrow path to the L 111 directly at the St. Ingbert Mitte motorway junction. We cross the road slightly left through the guardrails toward the Hochscheid hiking parking lot. The route leads slightly left on a wider path uphill toward Hochscheid.

Before this, there is a small climbing section to the Christkönigsbrunnen and the Horstenbrunnen on narrow paths. After climbing up the east flank of the Rothenkopf, the path leads over the Mittlerer Kopf past the Hainbuchenbrunnen to Hof Hochscheid, a Demeter farm with a beautiful beer garden and hut.

Past the Weidenberghütte, a shelter with views of Reichenbrunn, the path leads steeply downhill – past a historic boundary stone with an abbot's staff and then on a wide forest path winding past the “Brunnen am Saulager” further downhill to the outskirts of Oberwürzbach with the Rotsoligbrunnen. Through Reichenbrunner Straße to the left, the path turns into the idyllic Langental accompanied by a Way of the Cross at the roadside to the Lourdes Grotto with a small fountain.

After several hundred meters, the path passes the hut of the Frohsinn hiking club. From here, the path winds along the foot of Farrenberg to Friedhofstraße, where the path ends again at the Oberwürzbachhalle.
