The Karlsberg round combines everything important and interesting that hikers should know about WaldPark Schloss Karlsberg within 7 km and gives a sense of the splendor and size this site once had. One of the witnesses of time is the picturesque Karlsberg pond, idyllically nestled in the forest near the Karlsberger Hof. The Kneipp and arm basin near the shore offers a welcome change on hot days before the path gets a bit steeper up to the ruins of the Orangerie and then to the bear pit, swan ponds, and the Tschifflik Pavilion. All these are remains of the park Karlslust, which delighted visitors 200 years ago. The Tschifflick Pavilion, for example, was probably built around 1785 in the Karlslust as a garden house in the forest. The plunge basins and swan ponds were created as waters for optical purposes and to beautify the castle grounds, which were largely free of trees at the time. The plant-overgrown stables of the castle complex, mistakenly called "bear pit" today, are circular and arranged around an island in the middle and originally served as aviaries. The Orangerie helped the dukes then to overwinter tender citrus fruits. Below the “Stumpfer Gipfel,” the route leads back to the Karlsberger Hof. Those who then want to relax with a cold beer and a delicious snack are well served in the restaurant zum Schießhaus with beer garden.
The Karlsberg round runs parallel in some places to the premium hiking trails Schlossbergtour and Herzog Karl II August Pfad.

Wegbeschreibung
The starting point of this route is the parking lot at the Karlsberger Hof in Homburg-Sanddorf. From there, the path leads to the first highlight of the route, the Karlsberg pond. At the front side of the pond, the trail continues past the Kneipp basin and the Karlsberg spring to the ruins of the Orangerie. The natural path to the Orangerie is one of three steeper sections of the route. Once at the top, the path turns right after the Orangerie and follows a varied passage to the Hirschbrunnenbach and one of its collecting basins. After the first small basin, the path ascends the second incline and then runs level and slightly downhill to the relics of the former bear pit. After this highlight of the circular hike, a descent leads to the swan ponds. At their source, specifically at the plunge basin, the path turns left. Here follows the third incline of the hiking trail. After a short flat section, the last ascent follows, ending at the ruins of the Tschifflick Pavilion. There the route turns right and follows a beautiful winding forest path until the Karlsberg round ends again at the Karlsberger Hof.
