Kirkel Castle has dominated the area as a striking landmark for a thousand years. Once a proud symbol of aristocratic power, today it is the landmark of the municipality of Kirkel and the venue for the annual Kirkel Castle Summer knights' spectacle. Kirkel Castle was built before 1075 as a Gaugrafenburg. The history of the castle is characterised by destruction and reconstruction. A round tower has been preserved, which was rebuilt and given a tower dome, as well as a protruding stump of a pentagonal tower with Staufer humpback ashlar work. In the summer months, the Kirkel Castle Summer is a hive of activity in the craftsmen's village at the foot of the castle. Here you can get an idea of what life was like for our ancestors in the days of the knights.
At the foot of the castle is the Kirkel local history and castle museum, which is housed in a small farmhouse from the 18th century. The museum vividly depicts the life of the day labourers in Kirkel. An experience for every nature lover is the rock trail with geological nature trail, which starts in the immediate vicinity of the castle. The bizarre rock formations that have formed in the red sandstone over the course of several million years are particularly impressive. Dark valleys, bright clearings and the formations make the trail an extraordinary hiking experience. The entire trail lies in the core zone of the Bliesgau biosphere reserve, which means that nature is left to develop naturally to the left and right of the trail, creating a primeval forest over the decades. The natural outdoor pool with its large sunbathing lawn and children's playground in the centre of Kirkel-Neuhäusel is a great place to cool off.
Another attraction in the Limbach district is the Protestant Elisabeth Church. In the neighbouring village of Altstadt, the historic bell tower can be seen from afar.
